this is why i hate myself for choosing 4 years university over FIDM.
We had orientation at FIDM this morning and guess who stopped by? Joshua Christensen, Oliver Green, and Viktor Luna from Project Runway Season 9! Joshua is a FIDM grad and actually a current student doing the Advanced Fashion Design Associates degree and will be showing his collection in the Debut 2012 show. He gave a very inspirational speech to all of us new students, and is living proof that anything is possible. I was lucky enough to snag a picture with the other two designers.

Since 2009, photographer Chris Jordan has been documenting birds on Midway Atoll way out in the Pacific Ocean — near what’s known as the “Pacific Garbage Patch” or, essentially, a swirling heap of plastic the size of Texas.
What Jordan found on those islands were carcasses of baby birds that have died an unnerving death: According to the BBC, “about one-third of all albatross chicks die on Midway, many as the result of being mistakenly fed plastic by their parents.”

Operations associate, Loren, has a thing for nails — and we can’t blame her. We love reading about new finishes and fun techniques, so we thought we’d give her a weekly slot on our blog to wax poetic about all things manicure (and pedicure!) related. Check back every week for Nailing It, Birchbox’s dedicated polish series.
Last week while reading All Lacquered Up, I came across a post on a cool new technique that the nail geniuses at CND developed called River Rocks Decals. Given that I love trying new trends, I decided to give this method a go. Surprisingly, even though it looks rather complicated, it’s actually pretty easy. Here’s how you do it:
